Frequently asked questions
Joining the Ashburton Pistol Club means becoming part of a passionate community committed to safety, skill, and camaraderie. We believe in building not just skilled shooters, but responsible members who contribute to the club's success and enjoyment.
What are the main benefits of becoming a member of the Ashburton Pistol Club?
Having a B endorsement on your firearms license here in New Zealand is a real privilege, and it’s no walk in the park to get to that point. We, as a club, have our part, and that's to train you. Your part is to be safe and follow our instructions. Sorry to say, if you don't, there are no second chances. The club officers and Committee take our members’ safety and your training very seriously.
Roughly, what are the costs involved in joining and being a member?
The club has a subscription which is paid yearly and is around the $200.00 mark, but depends on how many disciplines you affiliate with, like cowboy action for instance is another $10.00 per year. If you shoot a competition, there will be a day fee which is set depending on the number of range course set in he competition but again is very affordable.
What are the first steps to joining, and what should I expect during initial training?
The New Zealand Police, clubs, and ranges allow you three visits to the club, at which time: step 1 - you need to decide if the sport is for you. Step 2 - you need to read, understand, and sign the club code of conduct. Step 3 - meet as many of the club officers so they know who you are, as they need to anonymously approve your application to join the club. Step 4 - NZ Police require you to start your B cat application before six months are up, and in that time you need to complete the required number of attendances. Your sponsor will help you with this process, and what is required of you is set out in the code of conduct.
Who is the Ashburton Pistol Club perfect for?
Who are we looking for in a new member? We try and keep the costs to our members as low as we can, so we will ask from time to time for help with certain aspects of club maintenance. This is a good time to add there has been a tremendous amount of dedication to get our club facilities to what they are today, and there’s always heaps more to do. So we are looking for people who are not only active shooters but will take pride in our club and help out when asked to make it better and tidier.
